Adaman Mural

Honoring the Frozen Five of yore.

Since 1922, members of the AdAmAn Club, a nonprofit organization, ascend Pikes Peak each Dec. 30–31, igniting a glorious fireworks display atop the peak at midnight on New Year’s Eve for all to enjoy for miles around.

We were commissioned to create a mural for the AdAmAn Alley, an award-winning placemaking project helmed by the Creative District to celebrate 100 years of the AdAmAn Club.

The AdAmAn Club provided a comprehensive archive of photos and information about their 100 year history of climbing the peak, including the sheet music to a marching song that was written for the club earlier in it’s history. That song celebrated the original five men who ascended the peak in 1922, otherwise known as the “Frozen Five”.

Live true to the memory
Of those frozen five of yore
Whose deeds made tradition
That will live forever more.

Taking inspiration from the classic WPA National Parks posters we created an illustration based on a composite of the vintage photography of those early ascents which included a vintage-style climbing badge featuring some of the lyrics of the chorus of the song.

Sheet music titled 'The AdAmAn Song' with musical notes and lyrics about fireworks and celebrations during the New Year.

To the right, a blue shield-shaped sign with white and yellow text reads: 'Live true to the memory of those frozen five of yore whose deeds made tradition that will live forever. Established 1922, Adam Man Club.'
