Downtown Art Map
Celebrating the power of art in public places
Art on the Streets is an annually rotating exhibit of public art in Downtown Colorado Springs, displaying over 200 works of art over 20 years, and over 30 that reside downtown in the city's permanent collection. In conjunction with their 20th anniversary, the Downtown Partnership wanted to create a map that brought more awareness to these works, invited interactive engagement and promoted the arts culture in the city.

Make it beautiful and useful.
Our two main goals for this project comes straight out of our company's design ethos: this map had to be beautiful and useful. Making a map visually compelling, easy to read, and simple to use was not a small challenge.
We created a visual hierarchy for the map that relies on a custom illustrated symbology and color to guide map-users to be able to scan and find what they were looking for.
Exploring different customer experience paths let us refine the visual system to be useful across different use cases—whether someone was trying to find artwork in a certain area, or organizing a walking tour by artwork type.
